Chocolate Lava Cake Instant Pot

Chocolate lava cake instant pot is easy to make and takes only a few minutes to prepare. This is the perfect treat to make when you’re craving something sweet late at night and a handful of chocolate chips from the cabinet won’t suffice.

It can also serve as a showpiece dessert following a special Valentine’s Day supper. This is one of my favorite decadent treats since it’s so flexible, gooey, and delicious!

Do you like a chocolate lava cake with more melted chocolate lava flow or a cake that is sticky but still holds together? The consistency of the “lava” in the middle varies depending on how long it is cooked. In the photo above, I baked the lava cake for 8 minutes in the Instant Pot. I did 9 minutes with a 1 minute slow-release in the photo below.

The ingredients for lava cake are actually rather simple. Most likely, you already have all you require in your pantry! Here’s what you’ll require:

Ingredients in Chocolate Lava Cake Instant Pot

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (or milk chocolate chips)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


Place chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, remove from microwave and stir.

Place back in the microwave for another 30 seconds and stir until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, flour, and vanilla together until smooth.

Pour chocolate mixture into egg mixture and stir well to combine.

Spray four 6-7-ounce ramekins with cooking spray.

Fill each ramekin 2/3 of the way full with batter.

Put steam rack in the bottom of the Instant Pot and add 2 cups of water.

Place ramekins on the steam rack, placing 3 of the ramekins directly on the rack and one over the top and in the center of the 3 ramekins (as seen in photo above).

Place lid on Instant Pot and place tab to “sealing”. Manually set the time to 10 minutes.

Quick release the pressure and carefully remove ramekins from Instant Pot.

Serve with ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top! (Or however you want to serve them)

If using bigger pyrex bowls to cook them (like mine) You will need to cook them for 14 – 15 minutes!!!
